Cardinals Reportedly Could Make Surprise Trade For Underrated Stud This Offseason
What will the St. Louis Cardinals do this offseason?
After a rough 2023 season that saw St. Louis win just 71 games, there's plenty of room for the Cardinals to make moves. St. Louis has said all the right things so far, insinuating that the club will be very aggressive. The Cardinals mainly are looking for starting pitching and will be in the market for three new hurlers. Rumors already have been swirling about who they will target this offseason and one surprise name the club could look into acquiring reportedly is Tampa Bay Rays righty Tyler Glasnow, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold.
"And then there are the trade possibilities the Cardinals aim to identify in early November," Goold said. "There are open questions such as whether the (Chicago White Sox) will shop starter Dylan Cease or how much Seattle or Miami is looking for offense?
"Tyler Glasnow, who struck out eight in five innings for Tampa Bay in the playoffs, is owed $25 million for 2024, and if the Rays entertain discussions, the Cardinals will call. Or email. Or text. Or all three."
Glasnow would be an intriguing addition to the St. Louis starting rotation. The 30-year-old has dealt with a plethora of injuries but when he has been healthy he has shown flashes of being one of the best righties in the American League. Glasnow was impressive this season pitching to a 3.53 ERA across 21 starts for Tampa Bay. Overall, Glasnow has a 3.89 ERA across eight big league seasons.
The 30-year-old may not be the biggest name on the market but could be a worthwhile addition at the right price for St. Louis.
