The St. Louis Cardinals have a logjam in the outfield.

It has been talked about extensively over the last year but the club surprisingly didn't make any deals involving their outfielders ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline. There were plenty of rumors that the Cardinals would trade away at least one outfielder, but the club ultimately decided to hold on to the logjam due to injuries.

St. Louis reportedly could trade at least one outfielder this offseason and reportedly will consider offers for two-time Gold Glove Award winner Tyler O'Neill, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold.

"The Cardinals are open to dealing from their outfielder and infielder depth to acquire pitching and streamline their major league roster," Goold said. "Trades could bring clarity to their outfield, for example. They are going to entertain offers for Gold Glove winner Tyler O’Neill, multiple sources said. A few teams, including (the Toronto Blue Jays), have asked about Dylan Carlson, according to another source.

"The (New York Yankees) are shopping for two outfielders and want to add some “left-handed balance” to the lineup, general manager Brian Cashman said. Multiple sources said the Yankees see the Cardinals as a fit for trade talks involving Alec Burleson or Brendan Donovan."

O'Neill has been the most likely outfield trade candidate over the last year. He seemingly has been in trade rumors since the first week of the 2023 campaign and it sounds like his time with the Cardinals may be coming to an end. O'Neill at one point seemed like he was going to be a fixture in St. Louis' lineup for years to come but injuries have derailed his career. He certainly has upside still and is just 28 years old, but it may be time to deal him away, hopefully in a package for a starting pitcher.
