The St. Louis Cardinals may need to make a change.

St. Louis is in last place in the National League with a disappointing 27-41 record through 68 games. To make matters even worse, the Cardinals have spiraled as of late and are 2-8 over their last 10 games. At this point, a shakeup may be necessary if the club wants to make up any ground in the National League Central.

One move the club could make that at the very least would excite the St. Louis fanbase would be to call up top shortstop prospect Masyn Winn.

The 21-year-old was drafted in the second round of the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft and has quickly shot up the organization's farm system. He made his professional debut in 2021 with the Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals. He quickly was promoted to the High-A Peoria Chiefs before the end of the 2021 campaign. In 2022, Winn spent time with the Chiefs as well as the Double-A Springfield Cardinals and has spent the entire 2023 campaign with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.

Winn struggled to open the 2023 season but has turned things around as of late. The young shortstop has slashed .281/.364/.397 to go along with four home runs, two triples, and 15 RBIs in 33 games since the beginning of May. Winn has been knocking on the door to a promotion to the big leagues and at this point, maybe the Cardinals could give him a chance to inject a little bit of life into the lineup.

St. Louis has a slight logjam in the middle infield with Brendan Donovan, Nolan Gorman, Tommy Edman, and Paul DeJong all healthy and seeing time. Edman has seen an uptick in playing time in center field, but at this point maybe it would make sense to give Winn a chance to see what he can do. The Cardinals likely will be active in the trade market before the August 1 deadline and could clear up the middle infield log jam with a deal or two.

St. Louis is 14 games below .500, maybe it's time to make a change.
