The St. Louis Cardinals are making a change to their starting rotation.

St. Louis' starting rotation has led to plenty of question marks this season. The Cardinals currently are in last place in the National League Central with an abysmal 58-77 record and inconsistent play from the starting rotation certainly is a big reason why. St. Louis turned its focus to the 2024 campaign at the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and traded away hurlers Jordan Montgomery and Jack Flaherty and have been in flux ever since.

The Cardinals reportedly are making a change to the rotation as the club looks to get back on track, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.

"Cardinals are reshuffling their rotation," Woo said. "Drew Rom will still start tomorrow. Adam Wainwright no longer starting Sunday."

The biggest reason for this recent change is to allow Wainwright an opportunity to pitch in his home state of Georgia once more in his career. The longtime Cardinals ace grew up in Georgia and was drafted in the first round of the 2000 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Atlanta Braves. Wainwright eventually was traded to St. Louis where he has spent his entire big league career.

The 42-year-old still is in pursuit of his 200th career win. St. Louis is set to begin a three-game set against the National League-leading Braves on Tuesday night at Truist Park. Wainwright has struggled this season but is just two wins away from reaching the historic threshold and is coming off of one of his finest starts of the season. Wainwright's last start came on August 28th against the San Diego Padres and the righty allowed just one earned run across six innings pitched.
