The Chicago Cubs (2-3) are back in the win column on Tuesday after defeating the Cincinnati Reds (3-2) 12-5.

It finally happened, the pitching and the offense all came together in one night and naturally it resulted in a massive come-from-behind win.

Starter Hayden Wesneski made his 2023 MLB season debut on Tuesday and was effective, despite what some have called an "off" night. Wesneski went 4.2 innings pitched and gave up three earned runs.

It was a solid effort from Chicago's fifth starter. It's a performance he can build off of.

More impressive was the Cubs offense which exploded for 12 runs. They scored 16 runs in their first four games combined.

It's hard to pinpoint where to even start. But let's fast forward to the seventh inning.

Chicago was down 3-2, having just scored two runs in the first six innings coming off of a Trey Mancini sac fly and an Eric Hosmer RBI-single, in the second and sixth, respectively.

Then the bats came alive. An Ian Happ double, Mancini single, and Patrick Wisdom single plated six runs. Their best inning of the young season by a wide margin.

They continued the offensive outpouring in what became a nightmare scenario for the Reds. Wisdom and Hosmer added two more doubles and the Cubs added three more runs.

The most impressive performances of the evening came from Hosmer, who had his best game in a Cubs uniform. It's not saying much considering it's the sixth game of the season. But notching two RBI off of a single and a double in big situations is exactly what Chicago will need from the first baseman.

It was encouraging to see fight from this Cubs lineup after spending the last three days looking lost at the plate. Coming back from behind against a divisional rival while also showcasing an offense that was previously not present can be a huge boost to momentum and morale.

It's a new-look Cubs squad but this win should go a long ways in helping build chemistry moving forward.
