Wesneski Turns in Disappointing Start, Chicago Cubs Downed by Dodgers
The Chicago Cubs dropped Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field 9-4 as Hayden Wesneski took the mound for the Cubs.
Chicago (12-8) failed to keep up with the Dodgers offense which turned in one of its better performances as of late.
Wesneski allowed three earned runs and pitched just 4.1 innings. It was another disappointing start for Wesneski who looked untouchable during spring.
Brandon Hughes, the only lefty in the bullpen, came on in relief of Wesneski and gave up an earned run in an inning of work. Mark Leiter Jr., who has looked great this year, gave up two earned runs in an inning of work raising his season ERA to 2.16.
The final three runs came in the ninth inning as Brad Boxberger gave up another three runs to the Los Angeles offense.
Half of Chicago's offense came via Nico Hoerner who continued to look great. He recorded another multi-hit game as he recorded a double and a home run, his second in as many games.
Sunday represents an opportunity for the Cubs to exit the series with a split. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CT and ace Marcus Stroman will take the mound. He will face the legendary Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers.
