Right-hander Marcus Stroman has been named the starting pitcher for the Chicago Cubs’ Cactus League opener Saturday against the San Francisco Giants, manager David Ross announced.

The game will be played at Sloan Park in Mesa, Ariz., at 2:05 p.m. CT and will air on Marquee Sports Network.

Ross also announced that Adrian Sampson will take the mound after Stroman.

Stroman, who signed a free agent deal with the Cubs prior to the 2022 season, went 6-7 record with a 3.50 ERA in his first season, starting 25 games. He struck out 119 batters and walked 36 in 138 2/3 innings.

Stroman is expected to be team’s Opening Day starter.

In 21 appearances last season, including 19 starts, Sampson had a 4-5 record and a 3.11 ERA in 104 1/3 innings pitched.
