Chicago Cubs Announce Flurry of Roster Moves, Steele to Injured List
The Chicago Cubs have announced numerous roster moves that have shaken up the roster picture. Perhaps the most significant of them was the placement of standout pitcher Justin Steele on the injured list retroactive to Sep. 2. with what appears to be back issues.
Steele has pitched a career high 119.0 innings this season to the tune of a 3.18 ERA and a WHIP of 1.353. He has been one of the highlights for the rebuilding Cubs and has helped the ball club stay in and win games this season.
Replacing Steele is Hayden Wesneski who was called up from Triple-A Iowa. If his name seems familiar it is because he was recently acquired from the New York Yankees in the trade that sent relief Scott Effross in return.
With Wesneski's addition to the 40-man roster, room had to be made which saw pitcher Kervin Castro designated for assignment. Castro has thrown 10.2 innings this season for Chicago and has amassed a 7.59 ERA and a WHIP of 1.500.
