The Chicago Cubs have finally made their one-year, $4 million deal with relief pitcher Michael Official on Monday afternoon. Reports of his signing broke 10 days prior to the official announcement.

Fulmer began his career as a promising starter but following Tommy John surgery and missing the 2019 MLB season Fulmer transitioned to the bullpen. He holds a career 3.89 ERA and during the 2022 MLB season he pitched to a 3.39 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP over the course of 67 appearances.

The right-hander brings a veteran presence to the roster and helps bolster the bullpen, an area that the Cubs needed to address heading into Spring Training.

To make room on the roster, Chicago placed right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer on the 60-day injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery himself. Heur was acquired from the White Sox in the same trade that brought Nick Madrigal to the North Side.

Heur owns a career 3.56 ERA over 86 career relief appearances.
