The Chicago Cubs have announced that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa and placed catcher Yan Gomes on the 7-day concussion injured list.

Gomes will see his injured list stint retro dated to May 2.

This comes after Luis Torrens was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations earlier on Wednesday.

Assad could pitch tomorrow on Thursday in the final game of four against the Nationals as Jameson Taillon will miss another start as he works his way back from injury.

Assad last pitched on Sunday so he is a perfect candidate to get the start.

The Cubs are currently facing the Nationals on Wednesday evening and will then play early on Thursday for a getaway fay. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. CT. Patrick Corbin (1-4, 5.74) will take the mound for Washington in the final game of the series.
