Chicago Cubs Pulling Duo of Stars From Trade Deadline Discussions
The Chicago Cubs have had a hard time figuring out whether they are buyers or sellers at this season's Aug. 1 MLB trade deadline.
Well, according to the New York Posts' Jon Heyman, the Cubs have now decided that they will not sell. The team has reportedly removed Marcus Stroman and Cody Bellinger from trade discussions.
It comes as little surprise as Chicago is on a seven-game winning streak and sit just 4.5 games out of the National League Central lead and 3.5 games back from a Wild Card spot.
The Cubs also have a positive run differential, a key indicator in the team's true performance this season. In a word, Chicago has been unlucky when it comes to winning ballgames.
While their schedule has been "easier" coming out of the All-Star break, they are playing to their full potential. It's evidenced by their season-high winning streak.
Still, moving players who will likely be free agents at the end of the season, especially ones such as Bellinger and Stroman who are highly coveted on the trade market, would bring back tremendous hauls.
It appears that the Cubs will hold their cards and attempt a postseason run with Bellinger and Stroman leading the charge. It is a sign of faith from the front office to the clubhouse and the fanbase that this team has what it takes to win.
Now it's up to the players to show they are up for the job.
