It's been a busy trade deadline for the Chicago Cubs. They made headlines getting back one of their former prospects in a deal with the Washington Nationals.

Their name continues to be thrown around in the market as a team interested in acquiring more before the Tuesday deadline.

One move they're for sure planning to make is removing slugger Trey Mancini from their roster.

Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation reported that his sources are telling him Mancini will no longer be a member of the Cubs going forward.

Cerami isn't sure if the slugger will be released or if they're going to designate him for assignment.

After winning the World Series with the Houston Astros last year, he signed a two-year, $14 million deal with Chicago that had a player option heading into 2024.

It's been a struggle for Mancini this season since coming to the Cubs.

He's having his worst hitting season as a professional, putting up a slash line of .234/.299/.336 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 79 games. That's compared to his career slash line of .263/.328/.448.

Playing in a non-hitter friendly park could contribute to his dip in numbers. He previously spent five full seasons with the Baltimore Orioles before being traded to the Astros at the deadline in 2022.

There's a chance Mancini could find himself on another major league roster if he is cut by Chicago. Playoff teams will be looking to add players through the waiver wire and free agency before the 40-man roster August 31st deadline.

If the Cubs are able to make the playoffs, it looks like Mancini will not be part of it.
