Chicago Cubs Sign Catcher to Minor League Deal With Spring Training Invite
The Chicago Cubs have signed catcher Dom Nuñez to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
In this story:
Catcher Dom Nuñez and the Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement on a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training. Nuñez has spent nearly his entire career with the Colorado Rockies after having been drafted in 2013.
He made his MLB debut in 2019 and has seen time at the Major League level in '19, '21, and '22. Over the span of 300 at-bats in his MLB career, Nuñez holds a .180/.280/.373 slashline. Despite his lackluster offensive output, Nuñez is known as a competent defender behind the plate.
The Cubs already signed Tucker Barnhart and have Yan Gomes at backup, however the addition of Nuñez means that the club will have some depth at the position with MLB experience.
