Chicago Cubs Throw Spring Training No-Hitter, Make Franchise History

The Chicago Cubs made Spring Training history on Friday when they threw a combined no-hitter against the San Diego Padres.

What an evening for the Chicago Cubs! On Friday night, the Cubs no-hit the San Diego Padres in Cactus League play. It was the first time in franchise history that Chicago threw a no hitter in MLB Spring Training.

Justin Steele, Javier Assad, Brad Boxberger, Adbert Alzolay, Jeremiah Estrada, Cam Sanders, and Nick Burdi all took part in the feat.

For Steele, it was good to see him back on the mound after missing a start with "general arm fatigue." As for the rest, it is a good sign to see them get out there and compete, especially this early.

Spring Training results hold little weight, for most it is about going out there and working on a singular goal. For pitchers it may be an approach or a pitch. For a batter it may just be to get in the box and try to identify pitches.

Still, throwing a no-hitter of any type at any time of the year is impressive, even if just for bragging rights. Either way, history was made on Friday night and it was a fun spectacle.
