Chicago Cubs Triple-A Affiliate Involved In Crazy Game Featuring 34 Runs
The Chicago Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate was involved in a wild game Thursday which resulted in an 18-16 victory over the Louisville Bats.
Louisville is affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds.
The game featured 34 runs, 42 hits, nine home runs, 80 total bases, one triple and nine doubles.
Twelve pitchers were utilized with 408 pitches thrown.
According to MLB.com, the nine homers ties the Minor League high this season while the 42 hits were the most since Triple-A Sugar Land and El Paso combined for 43 hits on June 20, 2021.
The only other Minor League game with more hits over the past five seasons was between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Rochester on April 13, 2019, and that had 43 hits.
In the fourth inning, the Iowa Cubs went back-to-back-to-back with homers by Jake Slaughter, Jared Young and Sergio Alcantara.
Matt Mervis, one of the Cubs’ top prospects, hit a home run with two RBI and two runs scored. Christopher Morel, who homered twice, is tied for the Minor League lead with 10. He had four hits and four runs scored.
