Cody Bellinger Takes Ridiculous Strike While Soaking in Dodgers Crowd
Welcome to the new MLB and to the never-ending ump show. It was on full display Friday night when the Chicago Cubs visited the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was Cody Bellinger's first time back at Dodger Stadium since leaving the club in free agency.
As a former fan favorite he received a standing ovation from the crowd.
A pretty awesome moment for a very good player who won the hearts of Dodgers fans.
Except he was given a strike for it.
While soaking in the ovation, Bellinger was dinged by umpire Jim Wolfe for a clock violation and given a strike. Pure insanity.
But, this is what the sport is brewing. In an effort to make the games shorter and more "palatable" for fans, we are now not allowing cool moments like this to happen.
Want fun? It's umpire dependent and that shifts like based on the mood in they are in that day.
What a ridiculous consequence for what would have otherwise been an incredible moment for Bellinger and Dodgers fans.
