Chicago Cubs utility player Edwin Ríos began his injury rehab assignment with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on Thursday night.

Ríos batted third in the order and played first base, the same as Cody Bellinger, who did his injury rehab assignment with the Iowa Cubs earlier this week. He was activated on Thursday after playing two games at Triple-A.

He was hit by a pitch during his first at-bat, part of a six-run first inning that saw them bat around. Ríos eventually scored on a Darius Hill single.

Ríos struck out to end the second inning. In the fifth inning he popped out.

He got his first hit in the sixth inning, a single to center field. While Ríos didn’t drive in a run, the Cubs scored four runs in the inning.

He finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and a strikeout.

This is the second time Ríos has been with the Iowa Cubs this season. He was sent down to Iowa on May 5 and recalled on May 19.

The Cubs put Ríos on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain on June 7, but it was retroactive to June 4.

Ríos began participating in baseball activities earlier this week.

He is not off to a good start this season with the Cubs. He’s slashing .071/.235/.214/.449 with one home run and two RBI.
