Iowa Cubs Set Astonishing Franchise Record in Loss to Columbus

The Chicago Cubs' Triple-A affiliate allowed an astonishing franchise record to be broken on Friday when they faced the Columbus Clippers.

The Iowa Cubs, the Chicago Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate set an auspicious record in their 15-2 loss to Columbus on Friday.

The Clippers scored 15 runs on just seven hits. But, the Cubs gave up 16 walks, a franchise record for a nine-inning game.

It was the only full game of the day, as the Clippers and the Cubs wrapped up a postponed game from Thursday night before the start of Friday’s game.

A quintet of Cubs had a hand in setting the record, beginning with starter Ben Brown (2-3), who He gave up just three hits, but allowed six runs (three of which were earned) and walked five hitters in four innings.

From there, Cam Sanders came on in relief in the fifth, worked 2.3 of an inning and gave up two hits, five runs (all earned) and walked five, bringing the total to 10.

Michael Rucker had the best outing of any of the Cubs’ pitchers on Friday, going 2 1.3 innings, giving up one hit and no runs. He walked just one hitter.

Jordan Holloway came on in the eighth and pitched just 2.3 innings, and while he didn’t allow a hit he gave up four runs and he walked three.

Jared Young wrapped up the game, as he worked the final 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and allowing no runs. He walked two, giving Columbus its 16 walks for the game.

Iowa also committed four errors in the game.
