Double-A Tennessee starting pitcher Ben Brown had another nice performance Saturday. The righty allowed two runs over five innings while striking out seven and walking one. Brown also allowed three hits.

Acquired at the trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs immediately moved Brown to Double-A for the first time in his career, and he's held his own in his new home. Outside of the 23-year-old's disastrous second outing, the righty has an ERA of just 2.63 over 24 innings.

Brown has also kept the strikeouts up, punching 36 batters out in his time with the Cubs. Thus far, the New York native has looked like a wonderful return in exchange for Daniel Robertson and has flashed the ceiling of a future member of the big league rotation.

Triple-A: Iowa Cubs (61-73) at Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (72-61): L 3-2

  • Caleb Kilian continued his up-and-down stretch, only going 2.2 innings and allowing three runs. The righty struggled with command, walking five batters and throwing two wild pitches.
  • Matt Mervis went 2-for-4 with his 31st home run of the season. The first baseman is now tied with Alex Canario for most home runs in the system.
  • Cam Sanders pitched two scoreless innings while striking out two and walking one. The 25-year-old has benefitted massively since his move to the bullpen.

Double-A: Tennessee Smokies (69-61) vs Pensacola Blue Wahoos (66-58): W 6-4

  • Miguel Amaya went 2-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches and a home run in his second straight game. The designated hitter now has an OPS of .870 in 27 Double-A games as he continues to rehab from Tommy John Surgery.
  • Chase Strumpf also homered, bringing his season total to 21, good for fifth most in the system.
  • Bryce Ball went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Ball now has 30 two-baggers this season.
  • Bailey Horn pitched two scoreless innings, with a pair of strikeouts and hits. The lefty has given up one run in his last nine games.

High-A: South Bend Cubs (72-58) at Cedar Rapid Kernels (73-57): NO GAME

  • South Bend's game was canceled and won't be made up.

Single-A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans (78-52) vs Carolina Mudcats (68-62):

  • Pedro Ramirez went 3-for-4, raising his Single-A batting average to .297.
  • Ethan Hearn also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBI. The catcher has a 155 wRC+ since Aug. 1.

Transactions:

  • The Tennessee Smokies activated left-handed pitcher DJ Herz from the development list.
