The Diamondbacks resurgence has been one of the biggest stories in the year. After winning only 52 games just two seasons ago, they have won 50 of their first 84 games in 2023. Outfielder Corbin Carroll has already been named to the National League starting lineup, but he will not be the only player headed to Seattle next week.

These five D-backs have a legitimate case to join Carroll on the All-Star Game roster:

RHP Zac Gallen

2023 Stats: 17 GS, 10-2, 3.02 ERA, 104 1/3 IP, 108 SO, 22 BB, 2.85 aWAR

After Carroll, the most recognizable player on the D-backs is their ace. Gallen has been good once again this season, going 10-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 17 starts. He leads Arizona with 10 quality starts and the team record is 12-5 when he takes the mound. His 2.74 FIP, which accounts for mainly strikeouts, walks, and home runs, leads the National League. He's on a short list of players in contention for the NL Cy Young Award this season.

2B Ketel Marte

2023 Stats: 78 G, .289 AVG, 15 HR, 44 RBI, 6 SB, .885 OPS, 2.95 aWAR

Marte's resurgence at the plate is another big reason why Arizona has a top offense in baseball. He's much closer to his 2019 form at the plate, when he broke out for 32 home runs and narrowly missed out on a batting title. Since April 26th, Marte has reached in 54 of 55 games and is currently working on a 24-game on-base streak after his 30-game streak was snapped. Luis Arraez, who is flirting with a .400 average, is the only second baseman who is having a better season with the bat.

1B Christian Walker

2023 Stats: 80 G, .273 AVG, 16 HR, 54 RBI, .851 OPS, 4 SB, 2.3 aWAR

Walker is having his best season at the plate and is putting up positive value as both a defender and baserunner. He not only hits for a decent average, but is also an extra base hit machine with 25 doubles and 16 home runs. Typically players with the type of thump that Walker produces come with a high strikeout rate, but he only has a 16% strikeout rate to go with a 9% walk rate. If the National League decides to carry three first basemen, Walker could be the guy behind Freddie Freeman and Paul Goldschmidt.

RHP Merrill Kelly

2023 Stats: 16 GS, 9-4, 3.22 ERA, 95 IP, 98 SO, 37 BB, 1.75 aWAR

Kelly has proven that his 2022 breakout year was no fluke, and in fact has taken his game up to the next level. After a wobbly start due to the after effects of pitching in the World Baseball Classic, he has been an excellent No. 2 behind Gallen in the rotation. He's on pace to have his best year in terms of strikeout rate, thanks to his ability to command five different pitches on any count. He will not be pitching in the game as he's currently on the injured list dealing with a blood clot in his right calf.

OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

2023 Stats: 72 G, .269 AVG, 13 HR, 49 RBI, 1 SB, 1.45 aWAR

A month ago it seemed like Gurriel was a slam dunk to start in the All-Star Game, hitting .310 with a .909 OPS on June 3rd. He's cooled off since, hitting .165 with four home runs and a .543 OPS since. Once a finalist for a starting spot in the outfield, he finished in last place for the second phase of voting. Gurriel has brought energy to the clubhouse and for much of the season has been one of Arizona's most dependable hitters in the lineup. With runners in scoring position, he's hitting .275 with five home runs and an .881 OPS, which is excellent for a guy often hitting in the middle of the order. He might have a tough time getting in with a very talented outfield crop to consider, but it would be a great story if he gets in.

The rest of the 23-man roster for the National League will be announced at 2:30 PM MST. The All-Star Game will be played Tuesday July 11th at T-Mobile Park, Seattle.
