Dodgers Add Two More Names to NL All-Star Squad
Catcher Will Smith and pitcher Clayton Kershaw were named to the NL All-Star team Sunday afternoon, becoming the fourth and fifth Dodgers to receive the honor this season.
"I'm excited, first All-Star Game," Smith said after the Dodgers' 9-1 loss to the Royals. "You dream of it as a kid, to go to the All-Star Game and be a part of it. Grateful and ready to go. Excited."

The announcement marked the first time Smith has been elected to participate in an All-Star Game after the catcher has had arguably the best season of his career thus far.
In 61 games, Smith has hit .276/.396/.495, adding 12 home runs and 41 RBI. Smith missed out on the starting spot in the All-Star Game, as Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy was named the starter.
Sunday's All-Star selection was Kershaw's tenth of his career. In 16 games, the 35-year-old holds a 2.55 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Because of a potential injury to his left shoulder, Kershaw could miss some time prior to the All-Star Game, and might not make an appearance out of precaution.
Kershaw ended his most recent start after just 79 pitches, later claiming that his shoulder got "a little cranky." After a throwing session Saturday, Kershaw said a decision has yet to be made on his potential return to the mound.
The two latest Dodgers to be selected join first basemen Freddie Freeman, outfielder Mookie Betts and designated hitter JD Martinez on the NL All-Star team.
These five Dodgers, pending their acceptance of the All-Star invitation, will head up to Seattle to compete Jul. 11, marking the 93rd edition of the All-Star Game.
