Dodgers Bolster Bullpen With Roster Move Ahead of Wednesday’s Game Against White Sox
The Dodgers announced a roster move on Wednesday, prior to their home game against the Chicago White Sox. They activated relief pitcher Shelby Miller from the bereavement list and in a corresponding move, designated LHP Adam Kolarek for assignment.
The move comes at an optimal time for the team as the bullpen has struggled this season. Miller has been one of the bright spots for the Dodgers this year, holding an ERA of 2.57 in 24 appearances. Miller signed on with the Dodgers this past offseason on a one-year prove it deal and thus far, it has worked out in his favor.
The former first round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals has seen a rocky career so far but something has clicked with LA. Once again, the Dodgers have been able to take a struggling pitcher and turn their stuff into production on the field.
Miller could provide some real support back to the Dodgers relievers and gives the team another option to use in games. The bullpen has been overworked this season and is one of the main problems that has plagued this team. Getting Miller back into the mix should allow others to rest and recoup from the last few days.
As a whole, the Los Angeles relief pitchers rank fourth worst around baseball with a combined ERA of 4.74. The only teams below them are the Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals, so the Dodgers find themselves at the bottom of the barrel.
As of now, the Dodgers don’t have any plans to make changes to their bullpen and hope the guys they have figure things out. If this team has any hope of winning come October, the bullpen will need to step up and get it together sooner rather than later.
