Dodgers Infielder Completely Fine With Team Being Labeled as 'Villians"
The free agency of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani was one of the most closely followed storylines in baseball history. He is the biggest star in the game today, so naturally, everyone was curious where he would end up.
Once the dust settled, it became clear that he was always going to head to the Dodgers. He had been linked with Los Angeles for years, and many believed that they were the favorite to land him. Yet, there were people who acted shocked by the decision for him to move up the I-5 freeway.
After signing Ohtani, the Dodgers didn't stop there. They added in other talented pieces, such as Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernandez, among others. This led to them committing to over $1 billion to player additions this offseason.
Many around the league weren't too happy with that, and Los Angeles has now been labeled by most as the "villain" of baseball. However, shortstop Gavin Lux doesn't mind the label and is even embracing it.
All the Dodgers did was flex their financial muscle to the fullest extent for the first time. Many have been calling on this team to make moves like this for years, and when they finally do, people don't like it.
The team was bounced in the first round two straight seasons, so making moves like this was almost predictive. They weren't going to sit on their hands, so they decided to make the most of the offseason.
The front office did their job by putting together the best possible team to win. The name of the game is trying to win, and the Dodgers have set themselves up nicely.
Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but they are in a strong spot. And after losing multiple talented pieces the last few years, Los Angeles finally decided to recoup assets in one winter.
