Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Provides Update on Max Muncy Injury
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy was plunked by a pitch on his hand in the first inning against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.
After absorbing the pitch from Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford, Muncy remained in the game to run bases and play defense. He was able to turn a double play in the first to get out of the inning, but was lifted before his second at-bat in the fourth.
Muncy's initial X-rays were negative and he was diagnosed with a hand contusion, but manager Dave Roberts said he will get another scan on Thursday.
“There’s starting to be some swelling, but (the injury) was on that ring finger knuckle on the left hand. It could have been worse, so we’ll get some clarity once he gets that scan. He was scheduled to be down tomorrow, so we’ll see the following day.”

Muncy has appeared in four Cactus League games this spring and is 3-for-6 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBIs.
The injury is reminiscent of one Muncy suffered in July 2020.
Facing left-handed teammate Alex Wood in an intrasquad game, Muncy couldn't pick up the ball out of Wood's hand against a renovated batter’s eye at Dodger Stadium. Muncy was hit in the hand, broke his left ring finger, and hit .192 with 12 homers and 27 RBIs in 58 games that year.
