Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Thinks Mookie Betts Put on a Show for Lebron James

When the King is in the building, you show out!

When you play in a city like Los Angeles, you should expect stars of all genres to attend games. It’s a special thing to have other celebrities come to watch you play, and it’s just the draw of LA.

In the Dodgers second game of a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was in attendance for his bobblehead night. The King came dressed in Dodgers apparel, ready to cheer on his fellow LA team.

James is arguably the biggest star in the city, so anywhere he goes, the cameras follow. So when the King is in the building, players have to show out. And that is exactly what star Mookie Betts did.

Betts capped off an LA sweep of the Marlins in the doubleheader by hitting two home runs on Saturday night. It was an awesome showing for Betts and his manager Dave Roberts believes it was in part due to James being there.

“I think that was intentional,” Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I just think that Mookie had another gear to show out tonight, and we were all the beneficiaries, and it was fun to watch him and LeBron, two great ones, man, it was a lot of fun. … It’s like, ‘I know you’re here in the house, and this is still my house, and I’m going to put on a show for you.’”

Per SNLA

Both Betts and James are two of the biggest celebrities in the city of Los Angeles. They know what it means to carry that burden, and there is mutual respect between the two men.

“Betts hit a solo home run in the third inning of the second game and after crossing home plate, he saluted fellow superstar LeBron James, who watched from a suite at Dodger Stadium. Betts then hit another solo homer in the fifth — this time James standing up and doffing his cap to his fellow LA sports king.”

Per Dodgers Insider

Betts added onto his incredible season with his performance. For the year, he is hitting .298 with 34 home runs and 86 runs batted in.

If Betts can continue his production, LA will be a tough out come playoff time. The team is going to need him down the stretch, and he seems ready to lead the charge toward another potential World Series run.
