Dodgers News: MLB Insider Puts into Perspective Just How Dominant Dave Roberts Has Been
As the playoffs get set to begin next week, this is a good time to reflect on how the season has gone for the Dodgers. Entering the year, most were counting them out after the lackluster offseason they put together
But LA didn’t listen to the doubters, and they just played their game. And once again, they are right at the top of the league, as one of the best teams overall.
This is a credit to how the roster was built, the players going out to execute the plan and not to be forgotten, manager Dave Roberts. Roberts showed this season just how good of a manager he truly is.
For all the criticism that he has received over the years, Roberts has just continued to be himself. Some of the criticism has been fair, but he remains one of the best managers in the sport today.
His ability to connect to his players allows them to thrive, and they feel comfortable about different things. He also just wins, as he has taken the Dodgers to the postseason every year that he has been the manager.
MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today shed some light on just how good Roberts has been since taking over as the Dodgers leading man.
“The only managers in baseball history with a higher winning percentage than Dodgers’ Dave Roberts’ .630 percentage are Bullet Rogan, Vic Harris and Rube Foster of the Negro Leagues. This may be Roberts’ fifth 100-victory season.”
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today
This year may be his best one yet. LA introduced a youth movement throughout the season, and they still haven’t missed a beat. Plus, the team has dealt with multiple injuries and inconsistent play from guys who normally have performed much better.
What Roberts has helped put together has been nothing short of incredible. He has found ways to manage all of the star players throughout the years, while also getting the best out of the role players as well.
His success shouldn’t be taken for granted at all, and as the playoffs get started, the hope is that he can manage things well. He has learned from his mistakes, and hopefully, that helps lead LA to another World Series win.
