In this story:

Every athlete has goals when they enter into their respective sports. Most people want to win championships or win individual awards. And for the lucky ones, they accomplish them. But it’s the greatest players that aren’t satisfied with hitting their original goals. They are always wanting more, and that drive is what fuels them.

Dodgers star utility man Mookie Betts is one of those great players and even with him having much more career ahead of himself, he has already had a pretty successful career.

Betts is 30-years-old and his resume already speaks for itself. He is a two-time World Series winner, an MVP, an American League batting champion, a seven-time All-Star, a multiple-time Gold Glove winner, multiple time Silver Slugger and more. But there is at least one more goal that he wants to obtain with his career.

"I think my goal now is to become a Hall of Famer," Betts told FOX Sports earlier this week. "And whatever that consists of, that’s what I’m trying to do. The rings, being a team guy, asserting myself a little bit, kind of embracing the platform, all those types of things I think will be what help me get to that end goal."

So far so good for Betts I’d say. That goal of his is what keeps him going to find more success. It’s the ultimate motivation for Betts and somehow, he seems to keep getting better and better each season.

2023 may be his best year in a while as he sits with a batting average of .276 with 26 home runs and 62 runs batted in. He is on pace to break his own single-season home run record of 35, which he set last season.

But not only is he just mashing the ball this season but he has his highest walk rate as a member of the Dodgers and isn’t chasing pitches either. He holds the second-lowest chase percentage among qualified batters. It’s a testament to the season that Betts is putting together and a big reason why the Dodgers find themselves still in contention despite all the issues they’ve seen this year.

If Betts can keep up this production in his career, I think he would have a solid chance to reach the Hall-of-Fame. Betts would fit in well with Cooperstown but for now, he still has a while to go. He can add to his mantle of achievements during that time and Betts is far from done.
