Here's a list of the best players LA could get. No, Shohei Ohtani isn't on this list.

In this story:

The MLB trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and it's time for the Dodgers to start narrowing in on their top trade targets. In the next 10 days or so, they'll have to have all their moves sorted out, and figure out all the upgrades they need to make a run at the postseason.

Fortunately, I'm going to make it easy for them, as I have eight players that they can target that will all elevate them to World Series contender status (although they're already pretty much there). Some are splashier than others, so we'll go in order of the smallest splash to the biggest splash, starting at No. 8.

8. Paul DeJong, SS, Cardinals - DeJong is hitting .238 this year with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs. His best year came in 2019, when he was an All-Star with 30 home runs and 78 RBIs. He's not that player anymore, but the 29-year-old shortstop would add significant pop at the bottom of the order.

7. Kendall Graveman, RHP, White Sox - The Dodgers obviously need bullpen help, and Graveman is one of the better relievers on the market. He has a 3.00 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 43 appearances, and would be a solid high-leverage option.

6. Tommy Edman, INF/OF, Cardinals - The definition of utility, Edman can play second base, shortstop and the outfield and can hit from both sides of the plate. He would add much-needed depth to LA's defense and a right-handed (and left-handed) bat to the bottom of the order.

5. Tyler O'Neill, OF, Cardinals - This is my favorite buy-low trade candidate, as injuries have ravaged O'Neill for the last few seasons. However, in 2021, O'Neill hit 34 home runs and drove in 80 RBIs, finishing eighth in NL MVP voting. He's a power hitting, right-handed outfielder who would provide a huge boost, for significantly less than the guys at the top of this list.

4. Jack Flaherty, RHP, Cardinals - The first of two starting pitchers on this list, Flaherty would add another trustworthy, hard-throwing, tight-pants-wearing starting pitcher to LA's rotation. He's had an up and down year, but has been much better as of late, and would love the opportunity to play for his hometown team.

3. Nolan Arenado, 3B, Cardinals - My favorite player on this list, Arenado would fill the Dodgers' two biggest lineup needs — a right-handed bat and a good defensive third baseman. The 10-time Gold Glove Award winner would be a huge add to this team, but the only reason he's at No. 3 is he's already 32 years old and has four more years on his contract.

2. Lucas Giolito, RHP, White Sox - The top starting pitcher on this list (and potentially the market), the writing feels on the wall for Giolito to be in LA. He's had another solid year and grew up rooting for the Dodgers. Also, his price went down after getting rocked in his latest start.

1. Luis Robert Jr., OF, White Sox - Potentially the best player who could be moved this deadline, Robert is hitting .275 with 28 home runs and 57 RBIs with an OPS of .905. He would need an absolute haul of a return considering he's 25 years old and under team control through 2026, but he would be an absolute star in the LA outfield for years to come.
