Dodgers Rumors: LA Loses Out on Two Big Trade Targets on Sunday

The Dodgers are still looking for pitching depth.
In this story:

The Los Angeles Dodgers' pursuit of another starting pitcher took a big hit on Sunday, as the St. Louis Cardinals traded RHP Jordan Montgomery to the Texas Rangers on the weekend's final day, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale and others.

It's another blow to LA after they lost out on former Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito earlier in the week as he was dealt to the Los Angeles Angels.

Additionally, St. Louis Cardinals closer Jordan Hicks was sent to the Toronto Blue Jays, per Jon Heyman.

Montgomery was said to potentially be a part of a Nolan Arenado trade, but the deal collapsed on Saturday when Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak announced that they would not be trading the All-Star third baseman.

And so, the Dodgers' chase for another starter and bullpen arm continues with two additional names taken off the board.

The team acquired starter Lance Lynn and reliever Joe Kelly on Friday, but still could look to bolster their staff with the trade deadline 48 hours away.

The need for another starting arm has presented itself this season after Julio Urias struggled after returning from a nagging groin injury, and with Clayton Kershaw still remaining out with shoulder soreness.

There are a couple notable rotation options available in right-handers Jack Flaherty and Mitch Keller.

Flaherty was linked to LA as part of the failed Arenado deal, while it was reported recently that the Dodgers were interested in the Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star with Giolito having been dealt to the Angels.

We'll see if LA can add to their pitching staff between now and the 3 PM PT deadline on Tuesday, but the remaining options are getting more and more narrow by the day with two more big names having been dealt to their next cities.
