When Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux went down with a torn ACL during spring training last season, it was a huge gut punch to the entire organization. Lux had finally been given the chance to be the shortstop of the team after waiting in the wings for years.

Lux has worked hard at the rehab process this offseason, and is once again expected to become the everyday shortstop for Los Angeles this season. He has attacked everything head-on, and the front office expects him to be ready for Opening Day.

Lux appeared on SportsNet LA recently and discussed the status of his health. He provided a major update on the recovery process, and how he has been able to move this offseason.

“With the workouts and stuff, everything feels great. Taking ground balls, moving really well laterally, running bases,” Lux said. “I think I’ve pretty much checked off every box at this point.”

This is incredible news from Lux and shows his mentality throughout the recovery process. He is determined to show that he can be the shortstop for this team long-term, but taking things day by day will be key.

With any major injury like this, there is always the thought of comfortability. Players often need to test out the injury during live game action, so it could take Lux a little time to fully get back to speed.

His mentality when it comes to movement will be crucial, and Lux will need to trust that he is healed. But according to him, that idea hasn't crossed his mind in a long time.

“Mentally I’m so far past that right now where I don’t even really think about it anymore, which is great.”

In 2022, Lux showed promising signs of what he could do on the field. With the help of the stacked Dodgers roster, he will be able to ease back into everything, while still hopefully producing at a high level.
