Tyler Glasnow Trade Could Take Dodgers Out of the Running For Another Top Starter
All offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been searching for help in their starting rotation after the team struggled mightily in the department last season. It has been their No. 1 priority, especially after they landed two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
The Dodgers acquired ace Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays, and he will be a front-line starter going forward. But they are still looking around for more help in the rotation.
They have been linked with multiple top-tier starters on the trade market and in free agency, but nothing has come to fruition just yet. But the trade for Glasnow could impact the Dodgers' chances of landing another top pitcher via trade.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting that the Dodgers' trade for Glasnow may have taken them out of the running for starter Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox
"The Chicago White Sox, who are shopping ace Dylan Cease, were disappointed seeing that the Dodgers sent promising young starter Ryan Pepiot to the Tampa Bay Rays in the Tyler Glasnow trade. They had strong interest in Pepiot in their earlier trade talks with the Dodgers."
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today
The White Sox have been waiting to see where some of the better starting pitchers on the open market land before continuing their trade talks for Cease. L.A. had a real interest in Cease, but the two sides haven't come to an agreement — at least for now.
With Glasnow in the mix, L.A. could still try to land Cease, but the White Sox would need more prospects. If they value Pepiot highly, that could prove difficult.
Cease has two years of control left on his contract, which was something the Dodgers coveted. But now that they've extended Glasnow, this deal feels less likely to happen — especially with the Dodgers focused on adding RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
