The SF Giants are welcoming back shortstop Marco Luciano (Giants #2 prospect) to the field this week, activating the consensus top-100 prospect from the injured list with the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Double-A). Luciano has been out since suffering a stress fracture in his lower back during the offseason at the Dominican Winter League. He was also in the news after signing with Bad Bunny's new sports agency. He is expected to make his regular-season debut on Wednesday debut against the Altoona Curve.

Luciano has been one of the best prospects in the Giants organization since he signed with the team during the 2018-19 international free-agent period. Luciano made his professional debut as a 17-year-old in 2019, hitting .302/.417/.564 between the Arizona Rookie League and the now defunct Short-Season against far older players.

After the pandemic-canceled 2020 season, Luciano made his full-season debut in 2021 and was one of the best players in the California League. At Single-A, Luciano hit .278/.373/.556 with 18 home runs in 70 games.

Last season, Luciano hit .263/.339/.459 with 10 home runs in 57 games with the Giants High-A affiliate in Eugene. He missed several weeks in the middle of the season with an injury and was promoted to Double-A for the Flying Squirrels' postseason run. In his first taste of upper minors competition, Luciano went 2-for-8 with three strikeouts in a pair of games.

Luciano has struggled to stay on the field throughout his career, having landed on the injured list in each season of his career. With that said, it's hard to differentiate a serious injury from San Francisco exercising extreme caution with their young prospect. Regardless, the Giants hope Luciano can stay healthy for a prolonged period and hopefully make a push for a big-league promotion this season.

The SF Giants big-league team has slowly been getting healthier. However, the minor-league ranks are also welcoming back an impressive talent to the field in top position-player prospect Marco Luciano.
