Aaron Civale Heads To Injured List As Guardians Pitching Becomes Even Thinner
This definitely isn't the news that fans hoped to get as the Cleveland Guardians prepare to take on the New York Yankees for their second home series of the season.
However, the team will be without starter Aaron Civale for an unset amount of time after he has been placed on the injured list with an oblique injury.
Civale has had a solid start to the season after missing time last year with injuries. He's made two starts in which he pitched a total of 12.2 innings, posting a 2.84 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and struck out eight batters.
In his first start of the season against the Seattle Mariners, he pitched seven innings, gave up no runs, and only allowed two hits. There was a lot of optimism about Civale's season after this performance, but now that's been put on hold.
This is an absolute blow for the Guardians who were already down a start after Triston McKenzie was placed on the IL just days before the season started. Now Cleveland is down two-fifths of their rotation in just the second full week of the season.
For now, Peyton Battenfield has been called up from Triple-A Columbus to fill the roster spot for Civale.
