The Minnesota Twins come in ahead of the Cleveland Guardians in MLB.com's power rankings after the first three series of the MLB season.

The first full week of the 2023 MLB season is in the books and each team has played at least two full series. Some series were put on hold last week due to inclement weather.

But the Cleveland Guardians, unlike last season, were able to escape the weather and get all of their games in.

Obviously, it's still early on in the season, but three series is more of a sample size than what we had with no games played. With that being said, MLB.com released their latest power rankings and there is definitely some room for conversation when talking about where different AL Central teams land.

They ranked the Guardians as the 11th-best team in MLB, and right ahead of them are the Minnesota Twins at 10.

Let the debate begin!

The Guardians finished their first three series with a 6-4 record. Two of those series came against the Seattle Mariners, where Cleveland won the season series, and the other was a series victory over the Oakland Athletics.

The Twins on the other hand have a strong 6-3 record as they swept the Kansas City Royals in the Opening Series, dropped their second series to the Miami Marlins, and then took two of three games from the Houston Astros. (The series opener last Thursday was postponed due to weather.)

Minnesota may have the better winning percentage, but an argument could be made that the Guardians had a more difficult schedule with seeing the Mariners twice so close to each other.

This is where the rest of the AL Central came in on the power rankings:

  • Minnesota Twins - 10
  • Cleveland Guardians - 11
  • Chicago White Sox - 17
  • Kansas City Royals - 25
  • Detroit Tigers - 28

There's no reason to overreact to these rankings because it's early in the season and there's still a ton of baseball to be played. I still think the White Sox will get in on the race and the Guardians haven't played a single series with one of their divisional rivals.
