Bibee Impresses In Triple-A Debut For Columbus
Cleveland Guardians 24-year-old RHP prospect Tanner Bibee came into the 2023 season with lofty expectations after a pro-debut in 2022 that saw him post a 2.17 ERA with 167 strikeouts to just 27 walks over 132.2 innings between Lake County and Akron.
On Friday Bibee lived up to those expectations making his Triple-A debut and first start of the season for Columbus facing Charlotte at home.
Bibee earned the win over the Knights throwing five shutout innings holding them to just four hits and a walk while striking out seven. He made 78 pitches 55 of which went for strikes and induced 16 swings and misses keeping Charlotte batters totally off balanced all game.
He threw 37 fastballs in the outing in which he averaged 95.1 mph on and topped out at 97.8 mph. He utilized his whole arsenal throwing 23 sliders, eight curveballs, six cutters and four changeups in the start.
With top pitching prospect Daniel Espino (shoulder) injured and Gavin Williams starting the year at Double-A Akron it's Bibee who might get the first crack at a Major League call-up out of the Guardians top three ranked pitching prospects in 2023.
For now, Bibee will try to continue to build on his resume pitching for Triple-A Columbus waiting for his opportunity while fans continue to call for a promotion.
