WATCH: Guardians Fans Give Andres Gimenez Warm Welcome After Signing Extension
Andres Gimenez will be a member of the Cleveland Guardians for a long time. Before the 2023 MLB season got underway, the second baseman signed a seven-year contract extension that will keep him in the organization through the 2030 season.
Cleveland fans always give those players who choose to stick around a special amount of love. We saw this last season after Jose Ramirez took a significant pay cut to stay in the city.
The Guardians started their first week of the MLB season on the road, so the home fans haven't been able t congratulate and show their gratitude to Gimenez. But we're finally able to give him a round of applause on Friday before they took on the Seattle Mariners.
Watch the ovation that Guardians fans gave Gimenez as he was introduced at the team's Home Opener:
This is an introduction that is well deserved for Gimenez. He broke out in 2022 and was a large part of why Cleveland made it so far in the playoffs. Gimenez also made and started in his All-Star Game, won a Gold Glove, and finished sixth in the AL MVP voting.
Gimenez has also had an incredible start to the 2023 season as well. He's currently slashing .321/.387/.464 with an OPS of .851. The second baseman has also already made some incredible defensive plays as well.
Thankfully, Cleveland will get to watch Gimenez for a long time!
