The Cleveland Guardians are in desperate need of more starting pitching. That's not something we say often about an organization that is known for its ability to develop and produce young arms.

However, the injury bug has caught the locker room and Shane Bieber, Cal Qauntrill, and Triston McKenzie are all on the IL. This combined with a rotation of three rookies is forcing the Guardians to look elsewhere for innings.

One option the team is reportedly looking at is building up RHP pitcher Cody Morris

Zack Meisel of the Athletic responded to known Guardians Twitter personality La Mole about the possibility of Morris starting. Meisel said, "(the Guardians are) kicking around building him up to 50-70 pitches."

This comes after the team option Morris to Triple-A in order to activate Logan Allen to start Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This range of pitches may not be enough for a full-quality start, but it certainly is enough to get the team through three to four innings.

Using Morris as a starter isn't an unprecedented idea. He came through the system as a starting pitcher and even made five starts in 2022. Morris had an ERA of 2.18 in those appearances.

Cody opened up the season on the 60-Day IL with a right teres major strain so the team's initial idea was to bring him out of the bullpen. It made sense with his injury history and Cleveland's depth at the time.

However, Cleveland needs another starter and Morris is one of their few options until the team can get healthy.
