Guardians Win First Series Since Middle Of April, Beat Twins 2-0
The streak is finally over! The Cleveland Guardians record their first series win since the middle of April with a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the series finale.
All of the action came early on in the game.
The Guardians hopped all over Joe Ryan in the first inning. Steven Kwan, Myles Straw, Jose Ramirez, and Josh Bell all recorded singles which helped them take an early 2-0 lead.
Those two runs were enough for the Guardians to win the game and there was barely any more offense after this. After that big first inning, Cleveland recorded four more sporadic hits during the game and the Twins only had one all afternoon.
Gabriel Arias shined both in the field and at the plate just a day after Terry Francona admitted he needs to find him more playing time.
Arias went 2-for th from the plate including a double and turned a crucial double play to help Cal Quantrill get out of a bases-loaded and no-outs jam.
Speaking of Quantrill, let's get into the Cleveland starting pitcher who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Cal didn't fill up the stat sheet with strikeouts, instead, he relied on his defense to get the job done, and they sure did.
Quantrill only recorded three strikeouts against the Twins. One of those was a pitch clock violation with two strikeouts. Minnesota didn't record a hit off of Quantrill until the seventh inning when Byron Buxton got one just over Andres Gimenez's head at second.
The bats are still looking to get going, but a win is a win and it's a much-needed series victory. The Guardians welcome another division rival to town on Monday with the Detroit Tiger coming in for a series. Hopefully, Cleveland can keep the good vibes going!
