REPORT: Guardians' Shane Bieber ‘Very Unlikely’ To Be Traded
Yesterday, the Cleveland Guardians reportedly agreed to deals with each of their seven arbitration-eligible players.
One of these players was ace Shane Bieber, who reportedly agreed to a one-year, $13.125 million contract with Cleveland for the 2024 season.
Bieber, who has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason, is reportedly not likely to be on the move, according to MLB Network insider and New York Post baseball columnist Jon Heyman.
Here is what Heyman had to say in a recent article:
“Though one GM said the Guardians are still talking about star pitcher Shane Bieber, the latest word is that a trade involving Bieber is very unlikely.
The Guardians have a chance to win the AL Central, so it was always going to be difficult to thread that needle.”
The 28-year-old and 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner has won 60 games and thrown 938 strikeouts with a 3.27 ERA in six seasons with Cleveland. He is the anchor of the team’s starting rotation, which features one of the premier such groups in baseball.
Notably, Triston McKenzie totaled 11 wins, a 2.96 ERA, 190 strikeouts, and a 0.95 WHIP in his last full season back in 2022. Tanner Bibee was named the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up after a stellar debut season, in which he won 10 games, compiled a 2.98 ERA, and threw 141 strikeouts.
After Bieber’s healthy pair of starts to end the 2023 season, Guardians fans will look for him to continue providing his strong performance and veteran leadership to the team this year.
