Shane Bieber Looks Locked In Against Rockies As He Gets Opening Day Nod
To the surprise of no one, Shane Bieber was confirmed to be the Cleveland Guardians Opening Day starter against the Seattle Mariners. This will now be Bieber's fourth straight Opening Day start for Cleveland.
Bieber looked absolutely locked in for what will most likely be his final appearance of the spring. The Guardians took on the Colorado Rockies on Saturday evening and Bieber showed no mercy as he took the mound.
He pitched 6.2 innings and only gave up four hits and one earned run. Bieber also struck out 11 batters and didn't issue one walk. That's about as locked in as a manager could ask for with their first official game less than a week away.
Bieber may not have the same velocity that he once did, but his pitch mix is still one of the best in baseball. His slider looks like it's in mid-year form and it's only March.
Bieber has now made five appearances in Spring Training pitching in 23.1 innings. He has a 1.54 ERA and 0.64 WHIP over that time.
The former Cy Young winner is looking to build upon his strong second half of 2022 which he posted an ERA of 2.48. There's a good chance that happens based on how Bieber has looked this spring.Â
