Cleveland Finalizes Their Bullpen Ahead Of Opening Day

Hunter Gaddis and Tim Herrin will make the roster to round off the Cleveland Guardians bullpen.
In this story:

One of the biggest questions for the Cleveland Guardians during Spring Training has been what the bullpen will look like come game one in Seattle. Cleveland had one of the best relief staff in all of baseball last season, but it's pretty common for a bullpen to see some turnover from season to season.

The Guardians will be brought back some familiar names to their relief staff, but there are some new names on the list as well. These are the relievers that will start the season in the bullpen:

  • Eli Morgan RHP
  • Enyel De Los Santos RHP
  • Emmanuel Clase RHP
  • Hunter Gaddis RHP
  • James Karinchak RHP
  • Nick Sandlin RHP
  • Tim Herrin LHP
  • Trevor Stephan RHP

The two surprise and new names on this list are Herrin and Gaddis. However, both of these pitchers are more than deserving of making the Big League roster.

Gaddis has pitched 13.0 innings this spring, one of the highest on the roster. Over his five appearances, he owns a 2.77 ERA and is striking batters out left and right. Gaddis has been a starter throughout his career, but he could also be an effective middle reliever for the Guardians.

Herrin has a slightly higher ERA than Gaddis does, but he does offer the Guardians something they're missing which is a left-handed arm in the pen. Sam Hentges is still progressing through his shoulder injury, but he won't be ready for Opening Day.

While Cleveland has some new names in the bullpen, they'll still be one of the strongest staff in MLB.
