There's been both negativity and positivty surrounding the Cleveland Guardians' starting rotation over the last few weeks. But let's stick with a positive story for this one as Triston McKenzie is starting to make progress in his return to the team.

McKenzie had his first bullpen session at Fenway Park on Saturday morning. This was his first session since he was placed on the injured list with a right teres major muscle strain.

Thankfully, this session went on without any trouble. He threw 20 fastballs without any issues which is more than positive news.

There's still a long way to go before McKenzie can join the team, but getting news that he's back on the mound is tremendous! The team is hoping for a late May return for the right-hander who had a breakout season in 2022.

McKenzie was excited to get back on the mound after sitting in the dugout for the first half of the season. After the bullpen session, he said,

“It was nice and refreshing to get back out there a little bit and get moving. It was some sense of normalcy. It was just good to be out there. I feel I’m another step closer.”

The next step is for McKenzie to pitch another bullpen session full of fastballs with him mixing in his curveball and offspeed pitches by the third session. If all goes as planned, he'll throw these in the next couple of days.
