Mike Zunino, Will Brennan Go Deep In Guardians Victory Over Boston
It's not every day that the Cleveland Guardians hit a home run. It's even more rare that they hit two homers in the same game! This infrequent event played out in their series opener against the Boston Red Sox and ended in a Guards victory.
The Guardians ranked 29 in MLB coming into Friday night's game in homers hit. They aren't a home run-hitting team, but the long ball helped get a victory over the Sox.
Cleveland's offense got it going early on scoring two runs in the first inning. They wouldn't stop there though.
In the top of the fourth inning, Mike Zunino was at the plate looking to do some damage. Nick Pivetta sent a pitch right down the middle of the plate which Zunino crushed. However, he was early and the ball went foul.
There's no way he would see the same pitch again, right? The correct answer is yes, and Zunino sent it over the green monster.
Cleveland entered the ninth innings with a two-run lead. A comfortable position to be in, but having insurance runs can never hurt. Will Brennan receive that memo and hit a Fenway Park home run to right field.
Don't expect the Guardians to start hitting home runs on a more regular basis after this game, but sure it's nice to see them hit a couple out!
