Triston McKenzie's Injury Is Best Case Scenario For Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians' team and fans held their breath on Friday when the organization announced that Triston Mckenzie would miss his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
McKenzie missed the first two months of the season and was placed on the 15-day injured list again on Saturday with what the team is calling an elbow sprain.
The newest update from the team is that he went through tests, was examined, and was diagnosed with a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). McKenzie won't throw for several weeks and will need to ramp back up to game level once the injury is fully healed.
McKenzie has only made two starts this season. His first start came against the Minnesota Twins where he pitched 5.0 innings, struck out 10, and only gave up a single hit.
He pitched 5.0 innings in his second start but the outcome was much different. The Houston Astors scored five earned runs against Triston which included a home run.
Sticks missing what is being reported around 4-6 weeks is obviously not ideal. However, it is the best-case scenario for him and the Guardians. Whenever a player is dealing with an elbow injury, minds always jump to "Tommy John Surgery," which is always season-ending
It appears McKenzie has avoided that fate as of now and we could see him back on the mound in late July or early August.
