Two Cleveland Guardians Named To 2023 All-MLB Second Team

Cleveland closer Emmanuel Clase and third baseman José Ramírez each earned their second career All-MLB Team selection.

Last month, the Cleveland Guardians had four players nominated for 2023 All-MLB honors.

On Saturday night, the 2023 All-MLB First- and Second-Teams were announced, with two of Cleveland’s nominees receiving a nod.

Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase and third baseman José Ramírez were both named to the 2023 All-MLB Second Team.

This marks the second All-MLB selection for each player since the All-MLB teams were established in 2019. Clase was named to the First Team last year, while Ramírez was named to the Second Team in 2020.

The pair are Guardians’ sixth and seventh All-MLB selections in franchise history. Here is a breakdown of Cleveland's selections for each season the All-MLB Teams have been in effect:

Both players had a very productive 2023 season.

For the second consecutive year, Clase led MLB in saves (44) and was named an American League All-Star. Along with his 42 saves in 2022, the 25-year-old became the first pitcher in Cleveland franchise history to record multiple 40-save seasons.

Ramírez was named an American League All-Star for the third consecutive year and fifth time in his career. He was also named both a Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award finalist this year. The 31-year-old led all qualified MLB third basemen with a .282 batting average, 28 stolen bases, and 22 intentional walks.

For each player, this latest honor is yet another accolade in their respective stellar MLB careers.
