The Cleveland Guardians have already started 11 different pitchers in 2023 and that number could always go up with it only being the midway point of the season. With that number so high, it's understandable to not know each pitcher's stats by heart.

One starter's numbers we need to have a conversation about is Aaron Civale

Civale has had an up-and-down season. He made two starts before landing on the injured list with an oblique injury for a month and a half. In the time he was out, Cleveland called up two of their highly-ranked pitching prospects Logan Allen and Tanner Bibee who immediately made an impact.

Some fans may have forgotten about how good Civale can be when he's healthy with the hype surrounding the new kids on the block and his absence. However, the righty is currently having a career season and has arguably been Cleveland's most consistent pitcher.

Civale currently has a 2.56 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in his nine starts this season. He's also struck out more batters than issued walks. The execution of his pitches has also been on point. Civale currently ranks in the 93rd percentile in fastball spin and the 96th percentile in curveball spin.

He made not be the hardest thrower in baseball, but when he can work the rotation on those two pitches Civale can still be one of the hardest pitchers to hit.

In his last start against the Kansas City Royals, Civale pitched 7.0 clean innings, struck out nine, gave up just two hits, and faced two batters over the minimum. The Royals may not be baseball's scariest lineup, but you still have to be ultra-consistent to put up a line such as that.

There are multiple avenues that Cleveland can take with Civale's resurgence. They can keep him around as the veteran starter in a rotation full of young arms or they can put him on the trade block taking advantage of his great season.

Either way, it's good to see a healthy Civale pitching well for the Guardians.
