The Guardians Should Trade For This Home Run Hitting Angels Outfielder
This season has flown by. We're already past the halfway point of the season and the mid-summer classic is this week. Being this deep into the season means that the trade rumors are going to heat up with the August 1 deadline less than a month away.
The Cleveland Guardians were silent at the trade deadline last season, but it's hard to imagine them watching from the sidelines again.
If they are going to make a trade, it feels like it will be for a home run-hitting bat they can play in the outfield. Lucky for the Guardians, there are a number of players they could target that fit that mold.
One player they can look to trade for is Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell.
Adell has spent the majority of the season at Triple-A, despite his success in the minors.
It's a little surprising that the team has not had him up with the Big League club because his numbers in the minors are certainly impressive. He's currently hitting .271 and an OPS of .956.
The Angels recalled Adell on July 4 because of the Mike Trout injury and since then he's hit a double, triple, and driven in two runs in 10 at-bats.
He also made a pretty nice home run robbery too.
Adell has been a streaky hitter during his Major League career, which is why the Angels' front office may be reluctant to play every day up to this point. However, his raw talent is there. He ranked in the 83rd percentile in the max exit velocity in 2022 and currently sits in the 99th percentile in 2023.
Los Angeles is in a position where they're trying to convince Shohei Ohtani to stick around for the long haul by making a postseason run this season. One area they need to get better at to make that happen is with their starting pitching.
If the Angels were to be inserted in dealing Adell, the Guardians had a surplus of starting pitchers that could be moved.
Would a trade centered around one of Cleveland's starters for Adell be something the Angels are interested in?
