Why Jose Ramirez's Three-Homer Night Came As A Surprise
Jose Ramirez had a night at the plate that he'll never forget as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Boston Red Sox 10-3 and took the series victory. His three home runs in a single will go down in Cleveland record books, but that doesn't mean everyone saw this coming.
Boston started Matt Dermody in the series finale, a left-handed pitcher making his first start of the season.
Jose has struggled a lot against lefties so far this season. Before the game, he was slashing just .155/.208/.532 with southpaws on the mound. He did have 11 hits in 77 plate appearances, but this production is a far cry from what he's done to right-handed pitchers.
Clearly, Ramirez didn't have trouble seeing the ball come out of Dermody's hand as Jose finished the night with two home runs off him.
After the game, Jose admitted that he has been struggling some against left-handed pitchers this season. But at the same time, he gave credit to how well they pitched him as well.
Has Jose looked as sharp against Southpaws this season? No. However, after last night's performance he pumped his SLG to a .577 and his OPS to .799 against lefties showing he's ready to lock back in.
