This Guardian Has Been The Biggest Surprise Of Spring Training So Far
Three games into Spring Training and the Guardians have already been making some noise on the diamond.
Out of all the Guardians who have gotten playing time through the first couple of games one of them has stood out above everyone else, and it's not who you'd think. No, it's not Gabriel Arias, Brayan Rocchio, or even Josh Bell.
It's actually Roman Quinn who's been on fire from the plate.
So far Quinn had five at-bats in a Guardians uniform. In that handful of plate appearances he's hit three home runs, has six RBI, and only struck at once. That comes out to a cool 2.400 SLG.
These sorts of stats are obviously not sustainable and he'll come down to earth eventually, but that's certainly a way to kick off some February baseball. However, his experience is something that will be around forever, and could be a great addition to Cleveland's roster.
Quinn was invited to Spring Training on February 3 with a non-roster guarantee. He's a veteran who's spent time in Philadelphia, and Tampa Bay over the past six years. Last season he appeared in 21 games with the Rays and slashed .262/.340/.405.
If the outfielder continues to hit like this over the next few weeks it would not be surprising to see the Guardians find a sport for him on the roster. However, that's easier said than done.
