MLB.com Names the Miami Marlins Most Indispensable Player
The Miami Marlins have several holes in their roster but there are several guys that could be considered the most indispensable player.
Among all active Miami Marlins, it'd be easy to make the case for one of the starting pitchers or Jazz Chisolm Jr. but the folks at MLB.com went a different direction.
In an article that highlighted each player that a team would be lost without, MLB.com's Will Leitch highlighted Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arráez.
"Upon arriving in Miami, Arráez became, almost immediately, the team’s most consistent hitter, its emotional engine and its best player," Leitch writes. "The Marlins always are a little starved for offense, which is why Arráez is so central to their hopes for a second straight postseason trip. He makes them dynamic in a way they desperately need."
Arráez carried a 4.9 WAR in 2023. He recorded 203 hits, 10 home runs, and had a batting average of .354. He scored 71 runs, collected 69 RBIs, and stole three bases.
The two-time all-star has had 16 at-bats this spring. He's had just one hit and been responsible for two runs.
Miami's offense was not great a season ago. A player like Arráez will be crucial in helping the Marlins take a step forward in 2024. Arráez led Miami in hits in 2023 with 203. The second on the team was Bryan De La Cruz trailing way behind with 149. Arráez was also among the players that struck out the fewest for the Marlins with just 34 strikeouts during his 574 at-bats.
